I started at the Woolum Sign at 6:05 am on Saturday morning, 2/14/26. I crossed the Buffalo river in sandals and changed into running shoes on the other side. I wanted to keep my feet dry for as long as possible. This ended up being a good idea because it was one of the only sections where I had dry shoes. By the time I got tor Richland it had started raining. It would continue to rain all day and most of that night. I met my wife at Richland to refill my bottles and food and set off for Fairview alone in the rain. I was met about 3 miles out from Fairview by Derek Scott who paced me in. From Fairview to Haw Creek I was paced by Randall Bright. By this time the rain had started to cause the creeks to rise quite a bit and I was having difficlty navigating some of the larger ones. I did not have to use the high water route around Hurricane creek however. From Haw Creek to Ozone I was paced by Chris Berry. From Ozone to Arbaugh I was paced by Erich Washousen. About 8 miles out from Arbaugh my watch died. I charged it from Arbaugh to Lick Branch and it ran the whole rest of the time. The submitted gpx file for part 2 is from Erich's watch. I was pretty dead when I got to Arbaugh. It was just after sunrise but it was still cloudy and misty and my feet were hurting pretty bad. This was the first time I had to sit for a while to dry my feet and recooperate. Once the sun broke through the clouds I began to feel much better and was able to pick up the pace a little. The section to Lick Branch from Arbaugh has a lot of downhill and didn't have any high water crossings until the very end so that helped a lot as well. My wife Laura paced me for this section and that was a great boost to my mental state as well. When I got to Lick Branch the crew wasn't there. They didn't expect me for at least another half hour so I laid down and got a 30 minute nap here. Once the crew returned I was able to change shoes and socks and get more food and water. I did the Lick Branch to West Cobb section with Will Landreth and his dog. We arrived at West Cobb just before sundown on day 2. From here Erich paced me again to Cherry Bend. We climbed up Hare mountain and got to witness a beautiful horizon just after the sun had set. I still felt decent through this section and didn't have any major issues. From Cherry Bend I was paced by Jake Anderson for the next 20 miles. It was getting late into night 2 and I was starting to get very sleepy. This is when I began to fall asleep while hiking and needed to take several small naps. I took one at Ragtown Rd in the back of the truck for around 30 minutes. While climbing White Rock I was falling asleep again while hiking so I had to take a 10 minute dirt nap on the side of the trail. When we got to the road crossing at White Rock I took another 20 minute nap in the chair in front of the heater. Jim Tadel paced me from White Rock to the Old Locke Rd crossing. The sun came up about 20 minutes after we left and we were lucky enough to witness a beautiful sunrise from near the top of the mountain. It was made more beautiful by the fact that I knew I didn't have to run in the dark again! This section was fairly short with a lot of downhill so it went by well without incident. I was starting to have a lot of audio and visual hallucinations by this point. I was seeing faces and patterns in every rock on the trail. I would also see many other exotic things before they finally transformed back into normal rocks and trees. It was wild but kind of exhillerating actually. For the final 9 miles of the trail I was paced again by my wife Laura. It was a beautiful day for a hike around Lake Ft Smith. My feet were in a lot of pain and I couldn't move very fast but I knew I had time to get it done so we just enjoyed it and took it pretty easy. The crossing of Frog Bayou was a little scary. The water was knee deep and moving pretty rapidly. I had poles that helped but Laura did not and I was worried for her safety. She wouldn't accept my offering of a pole. We made it across and hiked the final section of the trail. We were greeted by Jim and my daughter Peyton a few hundred yards from the finish and she held my hand as we walked up the final hill to the trailhead at the Lake Fort Smith visitors center. I touched the sign at 12:12 pm on 12/16/26 and was officially done!
