Mt Davis FKT.
I've been to Mt Davis once before but never explored the trails around it. So this was an adventure. The area itself is clean. The parking area where you start/finish the FKT is nice, has picnic tables and a bathroom. There is actually a few things to see in the area.
So I did a 5k before driving an hour to do this fkt. Not the best idea but not my worst either. I took a couple different pairs of trail shoes. I wore a couple year old pair of Saucony Perigrines that were kind of luggy underneath. This was not smart. I started at the end of the parking lot touching the boulders. Ran thru the grass to the trailhead. The 1st 0.8 isn't bad but kind of rocky in spots and rough on feet with luggy trail shoes. Ran around the tower took me a second to figure out which trail to take there are 2 option like 20 feet apart. Took the correct one and it got rockier right away. Still was able run decently. But had to pay attention. There isn’t really any side trails on the loop just a couple intersections. The trailheads did have signs. There was a grassy section next that was little overgrown. I was careful in grassy parts because I din't want to step on a snake or twist ankle on something I could not see. The next section was lefthand turn but once again 2 trails I could take close each other. Took 1st one but was a quick dead end to some spring with stuff boiling up. So took other one which was the right way. This section was nice. Rooty laurel type with little spring/creek besides had some mini waterfalls to see as ran like a foot or two high types. This was uphill part as way of the course. Once topped out became rooty and grassy in a few spots. One grassy second was little sketchy feeling. Def felt snakey going thru. There was maybe 5 spots on the route with trees down. Only one I really actually had stop to climb over. Rest I could jump. There was 2 spots there had big boulder type rocks sticking up that slowed me down. Almost seemed like every time I started to speed back up something slowed me down. Was trying to take in my surroundings as I went since it was a new place and I wanted to absorb some of it. I know there is another grassy section before popping out onto the road for the last 0.1-ish back to the parking lot.
The course itself is fun and has a ton of variety to it. Makes for a good little trip to run even just for fun and good training as well. I wore headphones but ¾ way decided just play my podcast out loud. I got it done and was drenched. Was harder then expected. But again still fun.
