When I found out the water in Zion had toxic cyanobacteria blooms, ruling some canyoneering efforts excessively risky (death by vomiting and convulsions sounds pretty lame) I pivoted. Why not take on a (mostly) off-trail extravaganza, set up by none other than the infamous Buzz Burrell himself (and the epic Jared Campbell)?
I had been wanting to do the Zion Downhill FKT since 2018.
So today was my day!
A mantra throughout the day of off-trail brutality was, "trust the animals" when I would find small game trails near the prior gpx track. This route is brutal to your legs if you don't wear pants. I don't know if I have ever torn up my shins so bad, and I do this off-trail quite a lot as many of you know...
anyhow....
It would be cool to do an FKT in every national park, any ideas?
Oh hey, who's next?
