I started at about 6:20 AM from the N terminal trailhead. The first few miles were in the dark with a headlamp. Lots of downed trees about a mile past Surprise Lake. Cool temperatures this time of year and rain the day prior clearing out the wildfire smoke both helped me move quickly for the first 20 miles or so of the morning. Filtered water at Rock Creek, approx 25 miles in. Felt good pushing up Eccles pass. Ran what I could and power hiked what I couldn’t, some of that climb is fairly steep and rocky. Super fast descent off the back of Eccles. Filtered again at mile 40, Meadow Creek. The final climb heading up Uneva is where the wheels began to fall off a bit for me. Steep sections mixed with very runnable terrain however I was pretty tired here. The top of Uneva is such a relief, but shortly after you begin to descend, there are a few more sneaky uphills mixed in there just when you think you are done climbing. Eventually it drops off sharply to Copper and then 1 more mile of flat to the South terminal trailhead. Such a fun day!
