This was a really beautiful route. Fred Most and I started at 3am at Phillips Trailhead on Teton Pass and followed the classic Crest Trail northward. We kept a casual pace, enjoying the wild flowers and taking a dip in the School House Glacier lake along the way. Unfortunately Fred took a nasty fall in a creek around mile 24 but carried on despite taking a hard blow to his hip. Around mile 26.5 we made a hard right and climbed our way through the loose scree up Dartmouth Basin and to the northern end of the upper saddle below the Grand. Fred and I summited the Grand around 3pm and took a short break before heading down the eastern side of the range towards Lupine Meadows. Once at Lupine, we took the Valley Trail north towards String Lake. We finished at 8:00pm that evening at the eastern String Lake Trailhead and hitched our way back to Jackson.
