Nestled between Lake of the Woods to the west and Fish Lake to the east, Brown Mountain is an iconic mountain of the Cascade Mountain Range of Southern Oregon. The circumnavigation route goes clockwise, where you run the Brown Mountain Trail for the first 4 1/2 miles, linking up to the Pacific Crest Trail for 8 miles and finishing up on a 4 mile stretch of the High Lakes Trail. The PCT has significant overgrowth which makes the trail difficult to see and down trees require some navigation. When running along the PCT, you run through old lava flows, which takes you back in time to the creation of the mountain range thousands of years ago. The route offers something for trails runners of all kinds, from smooth and rolling trails to technical downhill trails, nothing is boring, and when you look ahead on the PCT, Mt. McLaughlin majestically stands out.
