Das mit viel Respekt vor seinem Alter renovierte Postboot »Vesta« bringt seit Jahren Post und Passagiere zu Mini-Inseln im Nakskov Fjord, nach Slotø, mit Ruinen einer Befestigung aus dem 16. Jh., Vejlø und Enehøje sowie zu der Siedlung auf der Spitze von Albuen, wo jahrhundertelang Leuchtturmwärter und Lotsen lebten und heute im Sommer noch ein paar Menschen die wenigen Häuser bewohnen. Das alte Lotsenhaus kann besichtigt werden und auch ›Kystudkiggen, das im kalten Krieg gebaute Beobachtungshäuschen mit Panoramablick auf den Schiffsverkehr im Langelandsbælt, steht Besuchern offen.
Albuen, der Ellbogen, ist auch eine oft nur wenige Meter breite, lang gezogene Nehrung mit Stränden zum offenen Meer hin. Sie schirmt den Fjord gegen den Langelandsbalt ab. Wind und Strömungen verändern den schmalen Streifen ständig und manchmal bricht er bei Sturmfluten.
Vom Lotsenhaus führt die empfohlene Strandwanderung knapp 6 km am ›Ellbogen‹ entlang bis Vesternas Strand, wo das ›Festland‹ wieder beginnt. An der nahen Ecke Skarntydevej/Ydovej fährt dann ein Bus zurück nach Nakskov. Alternativ führt ein Wander- und Radweg über den Deich am Nakskov Fjord entlang in den kleinen Hafen Langø, dort halten sowohl Bus als auch Postboot. Alternativ zur großen Runde ab/bis Nakskov mit Postboot, Wanderung und Bus ist ab Langø auch eine kleine Runde nur mit Postboot und Wanderung möglich. Und ganz Fitte gehen den ganzen Fjordsti zurück nach Nakskov, ab Langø ca. 12 km/2 Std. extra.

The postal boat Vesta, carefully restored with great respect for its age, has for many years transported mail and passengers to the tiny islands of Nakskov Fjord: to Slotø, with the ruins of a 16th-century fortification; to Vejlø and Enehøje; and to the settlement at the tip of Albuen, where lighthouse keepers and pilots lived for centuries and where a few people still occupy the handful of houses during the summer months. The old pilot’s house is open to visitors, as is Kystudkiggen, the observation hut built during the Cold War, which offers panoramic views of ship traffic in the Langeland Belt.
Albuen (“The Elbow”) is also a long, narrow spit of land, in places only a few metres wide, with beaches facing the open sea. It shelters the fjord from the Langeland Belt. Winds and currents constantly reshape this narrow strip, and storm surges occasionally breach it.
The recommended beach walk starts at the pilot’s house and follows “The Elbow” for just under 6 km to Vesternæs Strand, where the mainland begins again. From the nearby intersection of Skarntydevej and Ydovej, a bus returns to Nakskov. Alternatively, a hiking and cycling path follows the dike along Nakskov Fjord to the small harbour of Langø, where both the bus and the postal boat stop. Instead of the full circular route from and back to Nakskov by postal boat, hiking trail, and bus, a shorter circuit combining only the postal boat and the walk is also possible from Langø. And for those with plenty of energy, the entire Fjord Trail back to Nakskov can be walked; from Langø this adds about 12 km, or roughly 2 extra hours
