Route: Allgäuer U (Germany)

Location
Germany
Distance
46.7 km
Description

The "Allgaeur U" is a beautiful loop that traverses 23 peaks which are located in the Naturpark Nagelfluhkette in the German alps. You will encounter a lot of variety along the route as some peaks are very easy with runanble trails and some others require easy scrambling where you have to use your hands. There are no out and backs and the route is a true loop. Start at the small town of Blaichach where you can park right at the trailhead. The loop starts at road near the buildings of the Bosch company.

Apart from a few meters in the beginning you are running on alpine single track trails most of the time. The Route is about 46 km with 3.700 meters of elevation gain.
Once you hit the first peak (Ofterschwanger Horn), the route pretty much always follows the prominent ridge line.

Due to the porous nature of the rock there is almost no water along the route. Depending on the season creeks and natural water sources can be dry.

The traverse was originally done by a local mountain guide on skis in winter. The best time to run is between May and November, depending on conditions and if there is snow yet.
