Description

This route highlights the dense and secluded Swan River State Forest and Jewel Basin Hiking Area. It winds through the Northwest Montana alpine filled with beautiful blue lakes, rocky exposed ridges, and lush greenery. For much of the route, Glacier National Park is on full display to the northeast. It begins at Napa Point and bobs up and down for 20 miles on rugged terrain before dropping down to Quintonkon Creek. Climb approximately 2500 feet to gain the ridge again and begin moving through the Jewel Basin towards the stunning Mt. Aeneas. Continue through alpine basins past Strawberry Lake and start your countdown of climbs and descents as you reach the final stretch. Rounding Doris Mountain will bring you glorious views of the Flathead Valley, Whitefish Range, and Flathead National Forest. As you approach your final descent, the battle is not yet over. Columbia Mountain puts the cherry on top with a 4000 foot plunge back into the town of Columbia Falls.
