Description

The Chain of Lakes Bike Path has a northern endpoint along Petite Lake Rd (County Rd A12), in Lake Villa. The southern endpoint is along Rollins Rd, just south of Grand Ave, in Fox Lake. The path has a total length of 8.62 miles.

From the north to south, the path enters the woods, heading south, after a short trip west on a paved path along Petite Lake Rd. The path leads to the edge of Olive C. Martin Elementary School. It is paved for a short portion in the woods. From there it continues south and passes through the Lake Villa Soccer Complex where it transitions to a crushed gravel path for most of the next 6 miles. After another section of woods, it opens up alongside a field, as it approaches Fairfield Rd. The path goes south along Fairfield for a short time, passing Lake Villa Township buildings. The path then enters Grant Woods Forest Preserve. The path travels through the forest preserve for almost 4 miles, leaving the park shortly after crossing Rollins Road.

From this point on, the path is paved and parallels Rollins Rd. As the path continues west, the Milwaukee District-North Metra Line also parallels the path. The path passes Ingleside Metra rail station. The path ends near the Fox Lake Metra rail station, a block south of Grand Ave.

I am planning to run this as an out and back on Sunday, 11/21. It will be unsupported.
