Description

The Convservation Trail is one of the branch trails of the Finger Lake Trails Conference.  It is the conference's longest branch trail.  It is a connector trail from the North Country Trail and the Bruce Trail.

Its southern terminus is on the border of New York state and Pennsylvania state in the Allegany State Park and its northern terminus is the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

The southern part of the trail is trails through the forest and is aligned with the Main Trail of the Finger Lakes Trail and the North Country National Scenic Trail.  The middle section of the trail is a lovely mix of state forests, county forests, and road connections.  The trail then aligns with old rail beds with one of the highlights being the former "Peanut Line" which was part of the Canandaigua-Niagara Falls Railway.  This extends all the way into Buffalo where the trail follows the Erie Canal Towpath before crossing onto Grand Island on the I190 bridge.  It gets off Grand Island and follows the Niagara Scenic Parkway into the Falls Overlook areas at the Rainbow Bridge.
