Route: Cordillera Blanca Traverse

The Cordillera Blanca Traverse was originally devised and then done by Cam Honan in 2014. The route traverses the entire Cordillera Blanca over 200 miles from north to south. The only permit you need to do the route is Parque Nacional Huascaran ticket, which costs 150 soles for 30 days. 
 

The Cordillera Blanca comprise some of the world’s most iconic mountains including Huascaran, the highest in Peru, and also the world’s largest concentration of tropical glaciers, estimated at over 700, though they’re melting fast. 
 

The route does not require technical gear and can be done in trail runners. However, it involves scrambling, steep off-trail mountain passes (5 that surpass 5000 meters), and one 25 meter fifth-class down climb. A good portion of the route is off-trail, and another good portion of the route relies on unmarked trails.
