Description

The Dark Peak is a 27-mile (45km) long-distance route taking in the classic start of the Pennine Way from Edale to Marsden. The also forms the start of the infamous Spine race, a 268-mile race along the entire length of the Peninne Way.

The route takes in some of the finest walking in the Dark Peak including Kinder Scout, Kinder Downfall and Bleaklow Summit. There are wild moors, huge skies and moorland birds for company.

There are sections of bog, but the terrain is mostly made up of non-technical dirt paths and paved slabs.

The start and end points are easily accessible via the Edale and Marsden train stations. Trains run frequently to Edale from Sheffield and Manchester Picadilly, and to Marsden from Leeds and Machester Picadilly. Check nationalrail.co.uk for details.
