Grenzenlos von Burg zu Burg - gleich acht davon liegen an dieser Tour im pfälzisch-elsässischen Grenzbereich. Die Ruinen thronen meist auf den Höhen und von ihnen herab bieten sich grandiose Aussichten über die zahllosen Kuppen des Pfälzer Walds, mit steil aus dem Waldmeer aufragenden roten Sandsteinfelsen. Über weite Teile bietet der Weg einen kaum getrübten Naturgenuss und die Streckenführung auf oftmals schmalen Wegen, mehrmals dicht entlang eindrucksvoller Felsformationen mit den typischen Farben und Verwitterungsformen des Sandsteins, ermöglicht ein besonders intensives Erlebnis. In den Tälern warten mit Schönau und Obersteinbach zwei bildhübsche Dörfer. Der Weg führt ganz überwiegend durch Wald, doch sorgen die vielen darin verborgenen Attraktionen und die beiden Siedlungsdurchgänge für ausreichend Abwechslung.
