Description

This is a popular and quite challenging hiking roundtrip at northern Swabian Alb, near the cities of Göppingen in Fils Valley and Schwäbisch Gmünd in Rems Valley. It crosses the famous and very distinctive „Drei Kaiserberge“: Hohenstaufen, Stuifen and Rechberg.

Usually it’s done anti-clockwise. It starts and ends at Hohenstaufen Youth Hostel, close to the top of Hohenstaufen Mountain.

Especially the mountaintops offer fantastic panoramic views. Mystic castle ruins are passed by at Hohenstaufen and Rechberg. Hohenstaufen Castle was seat of royal and imperial family of the famous „Staufer“ (11-13th century).

The route is signposted and quite diversified with steep trails parts, forest tracks and rural roads.

Starting-/arrival point can be reached by car and train/bus very easily, e.g. from Stuttgart city in approx. 1 h.
