Description

The Friese Woudenpad (LAW 1-1) is an official LAW (Long Distance Hiking Path) running from Lauwersoog to Steenwijk, the Netherlands. It is marked by the traditional white-red marking. It is marked both ways. It crosses multiple National Parcs, including: Lauwersmeer, Friese Wouden, Nationaal Park Drents-Friese Wold and the Weerribben. It runs from the province of Friesland south and the finish is in the northern part of the province Overijssel. After the start the route takes you over an impressive enclosure dam. The Frisian nature is isolated, sometimes rough and unforgiving. You pass the village Dokkum, well known for the traditional ice skating event (elfstedentocht). You also pass beautiful traditional farms, lakes, nature reserves and wildlife.

The route is well documented on the following website: Friese Woudenpad (traildino.com)

Futhermore, there is a hiking book about this route specifically. It is called LAW 1-1- Friese Woudenpad by Stichting Wandelplatform.
