Description

The Hanzestedenpad (the name is inspired by cities that historically worked together regarding trade) is a 124 km point to point route that is an original regional path (RP 11) in the Netherlands and is hence documented very well (see website and book suggestions below). It is fully marked by yellow-red markers. Furthermore it is easily accessible with many train stations along the route. The trail starts in the beautiful and historical city of Doesburg and follows the gorgeous Ijssel river and valley towards the finish in Kampen, another historically important city. It crosses many castles and historical landmarks, as well as beautiful forest areas. You have to cross the river twice by ferry (approximately 1 euro each) to complete the full route. The cities at the river were popular hubs for trade and many chapters of history can still be traced here.

The route of 124 km is described on the following websites:

Hanzestedenpad - Visit Hanzesteden

Please note there are also additional day hikes available (added loops, hence not solely point to point) that can increase the route from 124 km to either 100 miles or up to 300 km.

There is a book available from 2020 covering the main route of 124 km from Doesburg to Kampen  (ISBN: 9789492641083)
