Description

The Herriman Trail system is in the westernmost corner of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Its 13 miles of trail connects Dovre, Herriman and Knute Lakes with Little Vermillion Lake which provides further access to waterways and portages of the Boundary Waters. It is far away from any large towns and is one of the least visited sections of this remote wilderness area.

This 10 mile loop is the largest of a few possible loops that could be ran here and takes in most of the trails in the Herriman Trail network. This loop runs through stands of red and white pines and along a portion of the Echo River. It is rocky and surprisingly technical, with around 1000 feet of gain. The trailhead is along Nelson Road, 1.5 miles off Crane Lake Road.
