Description

Route starts at Base Camp, Puente Roto, which is at an altitude of 4,400m. The head of the trail starts right there by the road and then you just follow it to the mountainside and aim for the rock ridge which connects to high camp. First section of the trail is not very steep, just running along the mountain, until you get to the ridge where it becomes steep and exposed on both sides, however no climbing is required. After the ridge you arrive at high camp, Nido de Cóndores (5,450m) and the glacier starts. From there the track is well marked, conditions on the mountain vary, but you follow along the main ridge to get to the most technical part which is a steep (60%) incline that leads to some crevasses which you then cross to get to a false summit. You follow along the ridge to get to the South Summit which is the highest at 6438m.
The return to Base Camp is along the same route with some variations depending on mountain conditions.
