Description

The Knockmealdown Traverse is a point to point challenge which spans the length of the Knockmealdown Mountain range.

As the route can be run in either direction, runners can start at either, the 'Hands' sculpture in Goatenbridge village, or at the 'Circle of People' sculpture in Ballyporeen village. Participants will choose their own route between each of the ten summits/checkpoints. As well as summiting all of the highest points of the Knockmealdown range, participants will follow the ancient dry-stone wall which divides the counties of Waterford and Tipperary, and will pass by the glacial lake, Bay Lough (which is the source for multiple local foclore stories).

This route consists of country roads, forrest track, single trail, marshland and open mountain. Depending on runner's route choice, the challenge is approximately 33km with 1558m of elevation.
