Description

Korcula is considered one of the crown jewels of Dalmatia. This run is a traverse of the island from West to East with significant elevation gain and the opportunity to cross multiple Mediterranean ecosystems (littoral/coastal karst/Garrigue belt and Aleppo Pine Forest.) Additionally, the route goes through numerous vineyards and olive groves.

The route starts at the beach in Vela Spila and proceeds to the village of Vela Luka. From Vela Luka the route continues west through some olive groves and then after some elevation gain, through a few miles of vineyards. Around the vicinity of Road 118, the route goes North towards Zukova gaining elevation. At Zukova, the route continues West with exceptional views of other Islands in the archipelago and the sapphire blue water of the Adriatic. The route is relatively isolated with numerous up and downs on crushed limestone path/small road until you reach the very small village of Babina. After Babina, it is more isolation until the waterside village of Racisce. After going through Racisce, the route climbs a steep incline and cuts off a the small peninsula of Plaza Luka. After, there is decent into Kneza and the course pretty much is flat to small ups and downs as it follows the waterline for the rest of the course. As you approach Old Town Korcula, you will pass through the small village of Medvinjak and once through this point you round the bend and see old town Korcula. It is a beautiful ending to an epic run.

Korcula is a traditional Dalmatian Island that is easily accessible from Split or Dubrovnik. This run takes you through the heart of Korcula and is a challenging run with the distance and the elevation gain.
