Description

In medieval times, an ancient route connected the canal port of Levanto to Brugnato and Pontremoli, where it met the Via Francigena, continuing towards the Po Valley. This is the Via dei Monti, known in the Val di Vara and Lunigiana as the Via de Pontremolo. Through the project ``From Levanto to Brugnato along the ancient paths of pilgrims and merchants,`` funded by the Compagnia San Paolo Foundation of Turin, the aim was to restore and enhance the ancient route, which, along its path, encounters, just as it did in the past, parish churches, abbeys, castles, towers, and villages rich in history. Thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Zignago and the Union of the Municipalities of Lunigiana, it was possible to reopen the entire route from Levanto to Pontremoli.

The route is for trekking and trail running. Also included are the gpx tracks of the 3 stages it is made up of. For more information https://www.viadeimonti.it/en/
