The Little Miami Scenic Trail (LMST) is one of the longest paved trails in the United States, spanning 78.1 miles (125.7 km) through five southwestern Ohio counties. This multi-use rail trail experiences recreational use by hikers, runners, and bicyclists--and in Greene County, also by horseback riders. The LMST is signposted as State Bike Route 1 south of Xenia and State Bike Route 3 throughout its length. The largely wooded corridor was created along the former Little Miami Railroad. The original railway bed remains visible beside the trail in various locations.
The Little Miami Scenic Trail offers miles of well-shaded paths with excellent destinations along the route. Two state parks, John Bryan and Caesar Creek, are accessible from the trail. Xenia Station is the hub of four intersecting trails in Xenia, Ohio. Further south, where the trail closely follows the Little Miami River, is the Fort Ancient State Historic Site. The trail passes through the following cities and towns: Newtown, Milford, Loveland, Morrow, Oregonia, Corwin, Spring Valley, Xenia, Old Town, Yellow Springs, and Springfield. Each of these locations offers amenities, from gas stations to restaurants and breweries. The trail also passes by the Kings Island park grounds, and in Yellow Springs, you'll go under a covered bridge.
The trail has convenient access to campgrounds and restroom facilities. Parking is available at numerous trailheads from Newtown to Springfield.
