Route: Markermeer Loop (Netherlands)

Location
Netherlands
Distance
161 km
Vertical Gain
100 m
Description

The Markermeer Loop is a very popular route around the Markermeer Lake, north of Amsterdam. It's mostly done by road cyclists but this addition here at FKT will be for walking / running attempts. The route follows the edge of the lake for its entirety, and is fully connected except for the 300m across the river IJ, and that's why the route starts north of the Amsterdam Centraal Station (on the north side after taking the pond) and finishes at Centraal Station ferry docks.

It's also an exact 160km (100miles), which makes for an interesting flat attempt at the distance.

hey everyone,

something you should probably know: there are extensive work going on with the dykes from Durgerdam to Enkhuizen until mid-2027. this will lead you to use extensive detours on this first ~half of the course. they are well signed out, just follow the yellow signs for the bike reroutes.

I did an attempt today, but had to quit at Hoorn, due to my achilles acting up. seemed foolish to potentially mess it up and cancel all my main goals in the mountains for the summer. also not entirely sure if a pure road ultra is my thing to be honest, so I think I'll focus on trails for the foreseeable future
