Description

The Norwalk River Valley Trail will one day cover roughly 30 miles from Norwalk CT to Danbury CT and will also pass through Wilton, Ridgefield and Redding. WIlton has the most mileage completed so far and almost has a loop completed. I did the completed section in an out and back, starting on the sidewalk on route 7 across from Cannon Road. The route goes along route 7, turns right on Catalpo and then left on Kristine Lilly Way, right onto School St and then left into Merwin Meadows which has the first gravel trail section, this leads you to Wilton Center where the trail follows the roads (Old Ridgefield Road and then River Road) through downtown Wilton, then right on Horseshoe Road before going left onto the second gravel segment, then left onto Wolfpit road which leads back to route 7. Crossing route 7 might be the hardest part as I had to wait over a minute going out and 30 seconds coming back to get a walk signal as it is a busy intersection. Once across, the trail really starts as the next 2ish miles are on hard packed gravel and wind through the woods along the river, there are several road crossings to slow down at but otherwise it is pretty straight forward. The trail has not been completed yet so just before Skunk Lane the trail ends. I turned around here and retraced my steps.  Going out took 37:44 and coming back was about 38:10. When this is fully completed it will be an awesome loop in Wilton and the entire trail will be perfect for running, walking, biking.
