Description

Overland Track (standard route)

The Overland Track is one of Australia's most famous treks.

Starting in 1981, the Cradle Mountain Run is a one day traverse of Tasmania's famous Cradle Mt to Lake St Clair Overland track. The beauty of this run is that it traverses wild alpine areas of Tasmania's Cradle Mt Lake St Clair National Park and World Heritage Area. The altitude of the track in several areas of the plateau is greater than 1000 metres, which by world standards is not high, but here is well above the tree line. This low tree line illustrates the exposure and harshness of conditions that can prevail even in summer.

As per the FKT Guidelines, race records from the Cradle Mountain Run can count towards supported FKTs.

Overland Track (including all classic side trips. 130km +/- 6000m)

It is common for people walking the track to also include side trips. Tasmania Parks’ list of side tracks  detailed in their Overland Track Walk Notes was chosen to define the side trips for this route. While there are other side trips they tend to be informal, poorly defined and visit sensitive areas and have therefore been excluded.

Route: Ronny Creek to Cynthia Bay with all side trips (Cradle Mountain, Barn Bluff, Lake Will, Forth Lookout, Old Pelion Hut, Mount Oakleigh, Mount Ossa, Mount Pelion East, Fergusson Falls, D’Alton Falls, Hartnett Falls and Pine Valley Hut)
