This is an open course route between An Thoi at the southern end of Phu Quoc Island and Ganh Dau Beach at the northern tip. Athletes may complete the crossing in either direction and may choose their own route between the start and finish points. The GPX provided by the route originator is a suggested route and illustration rather than a mandatory course.
The route crosses Phu Quoc through a mixture of tropical coastline, beaches, countryside, local villages and more developed areas of the island. There are beautiful coastal and jungle views throughout, with plenty of opportunities to experience the island away from the main tourist areas.
There are convenience stores, cafés and local shops along the route where runners can stop for water, soft drinks, food, fresh fruit and smoothies. These provide useful opportunities to replenish supplies during the crossing.
This is an open-road route, with sections of busy road, traffic and motorcycles, including areas with little or no shoulder. There are also sections of uneven road surface and potential construction. Heat and humidity are significant factors, particularly during the daytime.
A midnight start allows runners to complete a large portion of the crossing during the cooler overnight and early-morning hours and reducing exposure to the strongest daytime heat.
The crossing provides a straightforward geographical challenge from one end of Phu Quoc to the other, combining tropical scenery, coastline, local communities and significant endurance demands.
