In the Rogers Pass Alpine Guide, David Jones describes the Rogers Pass Horseshoe as the "tour de force, it is hard to beat the grand enchainment of the 14 peaks" around the Illecillewaet and Asulkan Rivers. The Horseshoe combines both the Uto-Avlanche-Sir Donald-Terminal Peaks enchainment with the Asulkan Traverse.
The guidebook grades the traverse as D+, 5.4, 4500m and 30+km. Starting and finishing at the Illecillewaet Campground, the technical crux of the traverse is the NE Ridge of Mt. Sir Donald and the descent off it's south side. The route includes crossing the moderately crevassed Illecillewaet Glacier. The most pleasurable part of the day is the incredible aesthetic Dome traverse.
