The "Sagenhafte Schächerbachtour" is a premium hiking path in Homberg/Ohm in the Vogelsberg, a mountain range of volcanic origin. Since its opening, many hikers come to Homberg, an otherwise sleepy small village.
While mainly designed for hiking, it also allows superb trailrunning. The route meanders through meadows and forests with flowing single trails. As it follows the Schaecherbach, it crosses the creek via volcanic stones and comes along mystic ponds or springs.
What makes this route special, is tells along the path mystic tales stories from former times when the Schächer, thiefs, where marauding in this area.
There is the spring where you can hoist a gold treasure given you follow impossible rules.
There are the stories of ponds where women were drowned and now calling upon their murderers,
There is the story of the well where a miller misterously vanished with his donkey.
Overall, it is a very entertaining tour with beautiful views on the village of Homberg with its castle. And it offers well deserved refreshments and foods in Inns along the tour.
