Description

The route starts and finishes at the Wingate entrance to the Hart to Haswell walkway, locally known as the Lines, as the walkway was once a railway line used to take coal from the Durham coal fields to the docks at Hartlepool.  The Lines is a very popular route for local runners of all abilities.

The walkway takes you through a local nature reserve for approximately 5 miles, until you reach the railway crossing bridge at Crimdon.  After crossing the bridge, you then head down to the coast and follow the established trail along the sand dunes and down to the beach.  The route then takes you along the beach for approximately 2 miles until you reach Steetley Pier where you head off the beach in to Hartlepool.  The route then takes you through the centre of Hartlepool and in to Seaton Carew, back towards the coast where you follow the promenade along the sea front.  At Hartlepool Marina you then head back inland through Hartlepool headland and back to the railway crossing bridge at Crimdon.  You then follow the Lines back to the Wingate entrance to complete the loop.

This is a great local circular route with amazing scenery, views of the coast and local landmarks.  A varied mix of terrain including paths, trails and sand makes this a challenging but very enjoyable route.
