Description

A circular route making a full lap around Sheffield, taking in the nearby countryside and some of the Peak District National Park. The route is waymarked with small circular signs.

This varied route around the outskirts of the city passes many sites and buildings of archaeological, historical and industrial interest. It follows woodland and riverside paths, crossing undulating farmland and the open gritstone moorlands to the west of the city.

The Sheffield Country Walk is a long distance footpath which takes a varied route around the outskirts of the city and on its course passes many sites and buildings of archaeological, historical and industrial interest. It follows woodland and riverside paths, crossing undulating farmland and the open gritstone moorlands to the west of the city. From the nominal start at the junction of Sheffield Road and Rotherham Road near Eckington the route, of which the signage follows a clockwise course, visits Eckington Park, Twelve Acre Wood, Bowercinder Hill, Birleyhay, Troway, Cook Spring Wood, Dronfield, Dronfield Woodhouse, Mickley, Woodthorpe Hall, Totley, Totley Moor, Fox House Inn, Burbage Bridge, Burbage Rocks, Upper Burbage Bridge, High Neb, Stanage Edge, Lodge Moor, Sugworth Edge, Strines Reservoir, Dale Dyke Reservoir, Low Bradfield, High Bradfield, Holdworth, Worrall, Middlewood, Rocher Bridge, Birley Edge, Stubbing House Lane, Whalejaw Hill, Greno Wood, Burcross, Horbury Common, Ecclesfield Common, Butterthwaite, Woolley Wood, Meadowhall, Attercliffe Hill Top, Catcliffe Flash Nature Reserve, Treeton Dyke, Hail Mary Hill Wood, Woodhouse Washlands Nature Reserve, Rother Valley Country Park, Netherthorpe and Killamarsh.
