Slot til slot can be translated as castle to castle.
The route starts at Glücksburg castle and reaches about 2 kms later the shore of the Flensburg firth. It follows along this shore going first west to Flensburg, then north across the border at Schusterkate and then east all the way until Sønderborg and Sønderborg castle.
Doing so, the route follows in Germany almost always the Fördesteig (which is a semi-famous track all along the German side of the firth) and in Denmark the Gendarmstien (which is also a track but definitely more famous). Both tracks are well marked and descriptions can be found online.

The appeal of this route lies in the beautiful landscape and climate, it’s calm, it’s technical surface (it follows several beaches, sometimes sandy - sometimes pebble, for multiple km’s) and it’s connection to the (border-crossing) region’s rich history. Both castles once belonged to the same duke (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg) and they are a good example for the region’s history, that is always a little Danish and German or German and Danish no matter if you’re south or north of the border.
Don’t miss to take a swim (at least afterwards). The next beach is never far!
