This route traces the entire perimeter of St Kitts Island, from the south-east peninsula and around the entire island, counterclockwise. It is mostly on road with an amazing 7 mile stretch through the wilderness along the Scenic Railroad, and boosts continuous views of the ocean and rainforest-shrouded mountains. The traffic can be unnerving, as it moves fast and overtaking is frequent. The shortcut through Conaree and the Railroad avoids the most dangerous sections of road, but still be vigilant and stay on the shoulders as much as possible. There are small towns every few miles along most of the route to fill up on water and snacks if needed, and the streetside jelly (coconut water) vendors are terrific.
The route begins at Cockleshell Bay Beach, then heads up the road north and turns right onto Dr. Kennedy Simmonds Highway (mile 0.8). Continue on the rolling highway north, through the tunnel and into Frigate Bay (mile 6.5). Keep heading north on Zenway Ave to the golf course and continue through the course staying on the easternmost path until the end. At the last hole, head toward the beach and go around Koi Resort on its left to Half Moon Bay Drive (mile 8.7). Turn right on Half Moon Bay Dr, then left on Buchanan Rd through the town of Conaree at (mile 10). Turn right on the Island Main Road and continue for 1 mile to the railroad crossing. Turn right on the Railroad and continue north for 6.7 miles, passing over 4 wooden bridges, until reaching the Island Main Road in Nicola Town (mile 16.7). Turn right on the Island Main Road and continue along the highway around the northern end of the island and keep going south through the city of Basseterre (mile 39). Once through Basseterre, keep straight and continue on Cayon St and Pond Road to the Hon. Sir K Dwight Venner building and continue straight through the roundabout, staying on Pond Rd into Frigate Bay. My watch died here at mile 40.73, with 1.25 miles to the finish. Continue on the main road through Frigate Bay and turn right immediately after the Shawarma King. Turn left on the Frigate Bay Strip and finish at the arch!
