Description

The about 115 km long Tempelleden (the Temple Trail), between Nordmaling and Fredrika, follows the meandering stream of Lögde älv, one of few rivers in the northern part of Sweden protected from hydropower exploitation.

Tempelleden starts at the estuary at the Baltic sea, close to Nordmaling, and follows the river upstream along the trail Lögdeälvsleden (also called Vildmarksleden). The trail passes here through a characteristic landscape, such as the steep soil ravines (nipor) of Drakryggen. At the windshelter at Ornaggan, Lögdeälvsleden ends and Tempelleden continues on gravel roads along Lögdeån and north of Lögdasundsselet. At Storaggan, the trail turns south and instead follows the north side of Viskasjön, passing Fredrika, until finally reaching the Buddhist temple at Holmsele.
