Located on Hinchinbrook Island in North Queensland, the Thorsborne trail is a point to point hike usually completed in multiple days (4). The island lies 8km east of Cardwell, between Cairns and Townsville with a rugged range of mountains on its western side with mount Bowen the highest peak at 1200m. The route can be started in either the north or south with the North to South being the more popular option. Hinchinbrook boasts a diverse landscape, you will traverse mangrove fringed channels, sweeping bays and rocky headlands. Forests of Eucalypse, lush rainforest and grassy rolling hills. The highlight is undeniably the abundance of crystal clear waterfalls and fresh water streams. The route varies from single trail to open beach running, rock hopping, a small amount of scrambling and numerous creek crossings. Access to the island is tide dependant. Creek crossings can be tide and rain dependant and runners/hikers should be conscious of salt water crocodiles inhabiting the creeks and waterways.
