Route: Tokaido (Japan)

The Tōkaidō road (東海道, Tōkaidō, [to̞ːka̠ido̞ː]), which roughly means eastern sea route, was the most important of the Five Routes of the Edo period in Japan, connecting Kyoto to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Unlike the inland and less heavily travelled Nakasendō, the Tōkaidō travelled along the sea coast of eastern Honshū, hence the route's name.

The total length is about 500km and with only 2700m+ it is much flatter than the Nakasendo or the central mountain route. My goal is to run all 5 routes of the Gokaido, from the longest to the shortest. I set an OKT on Nakasendo in 2018 with 127h and 32m. On April 29th I will start in Tokyo and run towards Kyoto to try and finish Tokaido too.
