Description

Davenport Gap to Fontana Dam, and back. A classic, made as a loop by following both the Appalachian Trail and the Benton MacKaye Trail.

This route remains entirely within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, going from the Northeastern boundary to the Southwestern boundary. The short out-and-back between the AT/BMT junction and Fontana Dam ensures that both landmarks are reached.

Watch for bears...and fireflies!
