Description

This out-and-back trail is open year-round and is a showcase of the beautiful trails in middle Tennessee. The trail follows the shore of Percy Priest Lake for most of the route, and there are frequent views of the water. It is the longest trail at Long Hunter State Park. The Volunteer Trail and the Day Loop have their own parking lot and a clear distinction of where the trailhead begins. The Volunteer Trail leads to a pair of primitive backcountry camping sites, which is the turnaround point.

Heads up, the distance on this route should be in miles, not kilometers. I measured about 10.5 miles round trip.

Think I gonna go for this one on my run today. It’s been raining so we will see how sketchy it is. Planning to start at the trailhead sign and either tag camp sight 1 sign or fire ring. Gonna record with Forefunner watch and try to take start, turn around and finish video.

Trail was a bit longer than thought. I clocked 18.05 km or 11.22 miles for the out and back.
