Route: Crescent Trail (NY)

Location
New York, US
Distance
18 mi
Vertical Gain
1,400 ft
Description

Mike Merstock submitted the route:

The Crescent Trail is 18-mile hiking trail through the suburbs of Rochester, NY, established in the 1980s. Mostly singletrack, it links several nature preserves and makes extensive use of private property easements. In addition to the orange-blazed main trail, there are a number of spur and loop trails that nearly double the mileage and link the Crescent Trail to other area trail systems. It features some of the hilliest terrain in the region, great views, and hosts the regionally popular TrailsRoc "0 SPF" half marathon. Locals have recently been recording FKT attempts for both one way and out-and-back traversals, and Trail Methods (trailmethods.com) is now maintaining a regionally-focused FKT list as a supplement to the main FastestKnownTime.com site.

https://www.crescenttrail.org

There are FKT records located at https://trailmethods.com/regional-fkt-zone/ that follow the same standards as this site. Two different FKT routes have been established for this trail:
1. End to end one way from the South/West trailhead to the North/East trailhead
2. Double traversal of the full length, out and back, starting and finishing at the South/West trailhead

Going to take a swing at the Crescent Trail one-way tomorrow. My friend Ben Mears and I will be doing this together as an unsupported team, leaving from the SW start around 8am.

Not the best time of year for this -- super muddy and with a lot of icy footbridges -- but we're "home" for the holidays and psyched for a fun run.

I will be attempting the Crescent Trail one-way tomorrow morning, female-supported. Looking forward to a good run.

Hello! I'm taking a swing at the Crescent Trail out and back tomorrow. I'll be going self-supported. Looks like a bit of rain and okay temps; can't wait!

I will be running the out and back route for FKT tomorrow, September 6th. It will be a supported effort, only for the fact that I will have someone running with me for a portion of the beginning, no aid will be provided by anyone though. Hoping all goes well and the attempt is a success.

Hey, I will be running the Out-and-Back on 9/13/2020 unsupported.

Hi! Looking for clarification on where this route actually starts before going for another attempt ? looks like most people start on 96 about a quarter mile west of the parking area, should we be starting from the parking area?

Sarah Keyes -yes the course submitted and the official start is from the parking lot trail head -I want to say it was fairly recently (a year ago?) the spur trail to Cartersville was groomed and may have confused nonlocals especially with the orange marker -I verified with the Crescent Trail Hiking Association website which is www.crescenttrail.org as well as the #TrailsRoc mapping app
