Raven Rock State Park is about an hour south of the Triangle. It sits along the banks of the Cape Fear River* where piedmont gives way to coastal plain.

This route starts at the Pine Grove Furnace parking lot on the Appalachian Trail and runs north to the Duncannon Watershed parking lot. This route includes the following: Pine Grove Furnace State Park, State Game Lands #305, the old Center Point Knob, the Boiling Springs Children's Lake, The entire Cumberland Valley portion of the A.T., State Game Lands #170, the Cumberland Valley Overlook, and the Hawk Rock Overlook. This route is a perfect mix of mountains and valleys with many different types of scenery.
