Here is a chance to check out all the 4,000' peaks in Maine. Though the areas are remote and you will have to do a lot of driving, it was great to be able to figure out a route to see what Maine has to offer.

The route can be completed whichever way you would like, but I choose to start at Katahdin and work south. From Abol Campground, you can head up the mountain to Baxter and over to Hamlin, before coming back down. From there, you drive down the road to the trailhead to go up North Brother. After those three peaks are completed, you are now leaving the Nation Forest and you will not need to worry about a reservation for parking.

The next two were Avery Peak and West Bigelow which are part of the remote Bigelow Preserve. I choose to go in from the E Flagstaff Rd trailhead, hit Avery first then over to West Bigelow and back.

Now was time for the 6 peaks in the Carrabassett Valley. There are multiple ways that someone can take on these 6 peaks, but I choose to make a loop which did include a section after Abraham of bushwack. I would not suggest this unless you do your homework or know the area well.

From there, we headed to Saddleback ski resort where I was able to go up the ski slope to Saddleback peak and run the ridge line over to The Horn. This was a quicker out and back.

After those two peaks, Old Speak is the last mountain. This is an out and back up to the peak. There is no viewpoint at the top and Old Speck is labelled at the top with a marker in the ground.
