Route: Alta Via del Lario "AVL" - (Italy)

A demanding but suggestive itinerary among the wild peaks of the Western Upper Lario, the Alta Via del Lario is a trekking route of about 50 km which is generally covered in 3 main stages. The itinerary develops between 1200m and 2400m above sea level, along the ridge that separates the Como side from the Swiss one, partly following the paths that connect the ancient pastures to each other.
The path is marked by signposts and white and red stamps, it starts from the Church of San Bartolomeo in the municipality of Sorico and arrives at the Menaggio refuge in Plesio, offering a first technical and demanding part and a second more flowing and runnable.
During the traverse there are two aided sections: on the Ledù and the passage to the Schena de Mogn under Mount Mater de Paia.
In dry seasons there is not much water.
