Baldy Mountain (3212') is just north of Yakima. The route gains 1972' in about 2.5 miles. Trail begins from a pull out along HWY 821 in Yakima Canyon, across from Big Pines park. From the pullout along the road, a clear trail begins through a gate/fence, and ascends the most direct route to the summit, where there are some radio/cell towers. The segment to the summit is "Gate to Baldy Summit." For the return, it is most common to take slight variation on the way down, which loops down a more shallow grade trail when dropping off the ridge. The segment for the roundtrip going this way is "Baldy RT."
