Description

Downs Mountain is the northern most 13er in Wyoming's Wind River Range. This lovely mountain is approached from Trail Lakes Trailhead (just south of Dubois, Wyoming) via the Glacier Trail and sits at the head of the spectacular Goat Flat. It is either the first, or last, major peak of the Wind River High Route—but it also makes a burly one day run as well as about 50% of the route is off trail. The final push to the summit includes lots of rock hopping, fun scrambling, and frequently some snow travel. The panorama from the top includes Gannett Peak, the Teton Range, Wyoming Range, and the Absaroka Mountains.
