Description

Rail trail going from town to town at a ~1% gradient. It's called the Ghost Town Trail because while it does go through some existing towns, it also passes by what remains of various "ghost towns" - towns that sprung up to produce coal but eventually were abandoned once mined out.

There is a race on this route called the Ghost Town Trail Challenge.  The (supported) FKT currently set going uphill as that's the direction the annual race here is run.  Note that we generally do not track FKTs set in races, since the race websites do that.  You can report a supported FKT that is faster than the race CR.

The C & I extension is a flatish 12 mile extension off of the Ghost Town Trail main line. It starts In Vintondale PA at mile 0 and goes through numerous little towns and crosses numerous roads to almost loop into Nanty Glo PA but stops shorts by two miles. It is rail trail, and well taken care of. It's a newer extension of the trail. There are a couple bridges to see as well as old Quarry shack along the trail. It parallels the Blacklick Creek most of the way. There are multiple points to gain access to this trail extension. It is generally not as heavily used as the mainline of Ghost Town but its nicer then the rest.
