This route connects Skogar to Landmannalaugar. It is 50 miles and 10,000 feet of vert. This is the most popular backpacking route in Iceland because it is some of the most interesting 50 miles on the planet, including: waterfalls, glaciers, rivers, ocean views, geothermal activity and much, much more.

This route looks amazing! I am planning on running it on August 7th. Will the trailhead signs be obvious or is there a specific landmark at either end that should be used as a starting and finishing point?

I am going to attempt this route again on Sunday the 8th to see if I can take off some time. So excited to see this trail again!

Travel chaos took a bit of a toll. I am pushing this back a day to a bit of rehydration.
