Description

Nearly 31,000 acres make up your Lake County Forest Preserves. This path connects McDonald Woods to Independence Grove by following the Millennial, Grayslake, & Casey Trail. The middle of this route goes through another Lake County Forest Preserve: Rollins Savanna. The whole path is on a designed Lake County Bike Route.

Illinois landmass used to be 60% prairie, and now it is less than .01% prairie. This route highlights some of Illinois's best efforts to keep the Prairie State alive, running through the Liberty Prairie ReservePrairie Crossing, & numerous Lake County Forest Preserves

You will be running through beautiful rolling prairies and savannahs on a wide gravel path for most of the route. The other portions will be designated sidewalks next to a road in Grayslake. All the main roads that need to be crossed have underpasses for the trail. There are two smaller at-grade road crossings where you may have to wait at a crosswalk.
