Description

The Monon Trail is a trail covering the same route of the old Monon Railroad tracks, which connected Indianapolis to Chicago.  The expansion, to this point in time, of the Monon Trail has taken it from close to the heart of Indianapolis all the way to the rural town of Sheridan.  It passes by the Indiana State Fairgrounds, through Broad Ripple (a bustling urban neighborhood), and through Carmel and Westfield, two prominent cities just north of Indianapolis.  This is arguably the most prominent paved trail in Indiana.

The round trip variation can be started anywhere on the trail as long as it reaches both trailheads and finishes in the same place.

As of 2025, the trail appears to be expanding on the north end. Future attempts should use the new, longer complete trail. If the expansion grows to a substantial extent, we may consider adding a new variation in the future.
