Description

Park/Start/End at the gate entrance of Tom Mays Unit at Franklin Mountains State Park.  Run to East El Paso from West El Paso while enjoying the beautiful scenery on the Eastside and Westside of Franklin Mountains State Park.  Most of the trail is rocky with some dirt and there's a possibility you'll come across a rattlesnake.  Enjoy a combination of flat segments, moderate inclines/declines, and some steep sections.  The rugged terrain and lack of shade creates a trail less traveled.  But you may run into a few hikers and mountain bikers along your way.  The first 10 miles will be on the Westside of the Franklin Mountains, then about 3 miles of switchbacks at around the Northern Pass.  At around mile 21, have fun climbing to North Franklin Peak at a 8.6% gradient.  What goes up, must come down.  Be ready to run on a path consisting of bulky, medium sized rocks during your final descent from North Franklin Peak, then a sprint to the finish line!
