Description

The Raven Walk is a 14 mile circular route around the Sirhowy and Ebbw Valleys. Steep climbs through beech woodlands to hilltop commons reward you with views across the Severn Estuary and to the Brecon Beacons. Look out for the black and white raven markers as well as the four metal sculpture of ravens around the route, which starts and finishes at the Cwmcarn Visitor Centre and can be run in either direction.

If you're giving this a go, I would recommend using Emma's route above to tackle the eastern side of Machen. I get very lost in the bracken and brambles! Lots of this route is overgrown, so tights or long socks also recommended.

Recced the route this morning on a gorgeous sunny but very windy day .. weve got an eye on the mixed FKT but also the mixed over 65 (combined age 131 😳) ..  followed Gareth’s lines up Machen and down through the trees towards Ynysddu (that was fun) but the Machen line will need a rethink once the bracken grows.

3:30 moving 3.33 elapsed time so guess thats a 60-64 age group FKT https://strava.app.link/m2cbCAMvvHb
